Abraham Osinubi, born on May 12, 1963, is a distinguished Professor of Anatomy and a Medical Doctor with expertise in Business Management..[1][2] He is the current Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Lagos and a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology.[3] He served as the founding Executive Director of the University of Lagos Business School from June 2018 to May 2022[4][5][3][1][6][7]. Under his leadership, the school received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) in July 2019[1]. Prof. Osinubi was the Global Programme Director, Unicorn Group from June to November, 2022, he is also the Vice President of the Lagos University Medical Society and serves as the Academic Leader for the Case-Based Team at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.[8][9] In January 2023, he was appointed as the Director of Medilag Consult at the College of Medicine.[10][11] Osinubi has co-authored the first and second editions of Nigeria's National Clinical Practice Guidelines for Diabetes Management in 2012 and 2013, respectively[1].[12] He has authored two textbooks on Anatomy and published over 120 peer-reviewed articles in various national and international journals across disciplines such as science, medicine, and the humanities[8][1].[13][14] As an academic, researcher, and administrator, Professor Osinubi has been inducted into six prestigious academies both in Nigeria and abroad.[15][16][13][2] He teaches Leadership and Organizational Behaviour at the University of Lagos Business School[4][9]. His research is particularly significant in areas like Reproductive Endocrinology, Neuroendocrine Biology, and the roles of Free Radicals and Glutathione in health and disease.[13][16][17][18] He was ranked among the top 2% of researchers in Nigeria and Africa in 2023 by the World Scientist Rankings. He has successfully and has effectively supervised 21 Ph.D. candidates, many of whom have gone on to become Professors[8]

Early Life and Education

Osinubi was born in the historic city of Abeokuta, located in Ogun State, Nigeria, into a family of notable heritage. His father, the late Chief Zacchaeus Adeyemi Osinubi, held the distinguished title of Agba-Akin of Ijebu Igbo, while his mother, the late Chief (Mrs.) Alice Afolake Osinubi, contributed significantly to the family's legacy.[1][2][19] His educational journey began at All Saints' Anglican Primary School on Montgomery Road in Yaba, where he studied from 1969 to 1975[1]. Following his primary education, he advanced to Government College in Ketu, Lagos, from September 1975 to June 1980[1][20]. During his time at the college, Osinubi distinguished himself as the Head Boy (Male Senior Prefect), a role that showcased his leadership skills[1][20]. He excelled academically, culminating in his graduation with a Division One Distinction in the prestigious West African Examination Council exams in June 1980[1][19]. Osinubi's passion for medicine led him to the University of Ibadan in October 1981, where he embarked on a rigorous journey in Medicine and Surgery[1][20]. He dedicated himself to his studies and eventually graduated, receiving his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B., B.S.) degree in September 1987[1][19]. After completing his undergraduate studies, he sought to deepen his understanding of the human body and its intricacies. In pursuit of this goal, he enrolled at the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Master of Science in Anatomy in 2000[1][12]. His academic endeavors continued, and he achieved a Ph.D. from the same university in 2006[1][12]

In addition to his medical qualifications, Osinubi further broadened his expertise by pursuing a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, equipping him with valuable skills to merge healthcare with business acumen.[10]

Career

Osinubi began his career at the University of Lagos on March 1, 2001, as a Lecturer II.[1][19][9]. After earning his doctorate in 2006, he was appointed Associate Professor at Lagos State University (LASU) and served as the Head of the Anatomy Department at Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) from 2008 to 2009[1][12][9]. He then returned to the University of Lagos, where he first worked as the Faculty Examinations Officer for the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, from 2009 to 2010[1][10][9]. Following that, he held the position of Head of the Anatomy Department at UNILAG from 2010 to 2012.[21][9] From 2009 to 2014, Osinubi acted as the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism, now known as the Endocrine and Metabolism Society of Nigeria. He also served as Treasurer for the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists - Nigerian Chapter between 2009 and 2018[1][3][10]. At the University of Lagos, he was the Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences from 2012 to 2014 and was the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of the University of Lagos Journal of Basic Medical Sciences from 2012 to 2016[4][1][21]

Additionally, he took on the role of Vice-President of the Endocrine and Metabolism Society of Nigeria from 2014 to 2017.[22][8][9] Osinubi chaired the Committee on Staff Training and Development for Non-Teaching Staff at the College of Medicine from 2015 to 2018 and led the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences Committee for Biomedical Research from 2016 to 2020[1][9][8][10]. In 2015, he was promoted to the rank of full Professor at the University of Lagos and delivered his inaugural lecture titled "The Anatomist: Jack-of-all-Trades, Master of all" on November 8, 2017[1]. Currently, Osinubi is the Vice-President of the Lagos University Medical Society and serves as the Team Lead and Academic Leader for the Case-Based Team at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.[23] He was appointed Director of the Medilag Consult Board in January 2023[23]. In addition to his academic roles, Osinubi has experience in business management, having served as the Global Programme Director for Unicorn Group from June to November in 2022.[24]

He has been a member of the Advisory Board of Max International since 2016 and co-authored the paper "Rethinking Blue Ocean Strategy in Disruptive Uncertain Times" published in the Lagos Business and Management Review (2022).[24]. He also conducts various business and health seminars both online and in-person across different regions globally[24]

Fellowership and Awards

Osinubi has dedicated many decades to the fields of Medical and Anatomy education, earning numerous fellowships and accolades for his contributions.[4]. In December 2009, he was honored with the title of Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology (FACE) during a convocation ceremony held on April 24, 2010, at the Sheraton Boston Hotel in Massachusetts, USA[1]. Additionally, on September 23, 2016, he received the Fellow of the Anatomical Society of Nigeria (FASN) designation at the 13th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference hosted by Ekiti State University[3]. In 2021, Osinubi was recognized as a foundation Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Specialties in Nigeria (FAMedS) and also became a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine (FNAMed).[5] The following year, he was awarded the title of Fellow of the Endocrine and Metabolism Society of Nigeria (FEMSON)[9]. Moreover, on November 20, 2021, he was honored with the Global Impact Award by Max International, USA, and received the Professor Herbert Nagasawa Global Award for Consistency, Dedication, and Integrity from the same organization on January 16, 2022[1]
