Ablume (Korean: 어블룸; RR: Eobeullum) is an upcoming South Korean girl group formed by entertainment agency Massive E&C. The group is composed of three members: Saena, Aran, and Sio. They were formerly part of another girl group Fifty Fifty.

Name

The group name originally comes from the German word blume meaning flower,[1] which symbolizes growth and the process of blooming. The trio explained the name to find their charm and potential while creating "diverse music".[2][unreliable source?]

Aran, Saena, and Sio were previously members of South Korean girl group Fifty Fifty since November 2022, where they gained popularity for their commercial successful bubblegum song "Cupid" (2023).[3]

The trio soon filed an injunction to suspend their exclusive contracts with record label Attrakt on June 19, citing a lack of financial transparency, failure to fulfill contractual obligations, and medical negligence.[4] The injunction application was without merit and dismissed it in its entirety from Seoul Central District Court,[5] stating that the plaintiffs failed to sufficiently explain their reasons for filing a contract injunction and difficult to view the materials they submitted as evidence for the breakdown of trust between the two parties.[6] Two days later, the group filed to appeal this decision.[7]

Keena later withdrew her appeal against the record label on October 16, stating she lost faith in their former manager who proposed the injunction, Ahn Sung-il, and regretted that she did not contact Attrakt before starting legal procedures.[8] Afterwards, the former agency terminated their exclusive contracts for breach of contract on October 19.[9] Their appeal was rejected from court.[10]

2024–present: Reintroduced as Ablume

Aran, Saena, and Sio announced they had signed an exclusive contract with Massive E&C on August 12, 2024.[11] Two months later, the trio reintroduced themselves as Ablume throughout social media on October 15.[12]

This caused the Korea Management Federation (KMF) to condemned the trio for its accused attempts in tampering with their former record label,[13] and attempting to resume their entertainment activities.[14][unreliable source?] Soon after, the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) considered to exclude the group from appearing on record charts or any music awards ceremonies and called out a boycott on December 13, against girl groups Ablume and NewJeans.[15] International fans criticized the record chart for targeting them instead of addressing their systemic issues.[16][unreliable source]

Ablume spent their holiday on producing music videos, photoshoots, and uploading choreograph content online in Los Angeles, United States.[17] Shortly after, the trio covered "Text Me Merry Christmas" (2014) by American acappella group Straight No Chaser, throughout social media on December 19.[18]

On February 26, 2025, Massive E&C announced that The Givers' CEO and former Fifty Fifty producer Ahn Sung-il will be producing Ablume's debut album, which will be released in the first half of the year at the earliest, upon the request of the members during the process of discussing their future activities.[19] On February 27, Massive E&C announced that Ahn Sung-il joined the label and will be the general producer of the group ahead of their US launch and global expansion.[20]
