Abigail L. Dressel is an American diplomat who is the nominee to serve as the United States ambassador to Angola and the United States ambassador to São Tomé and Príncipe.
Early life and education[edit]
A native of Connecticut, Dressel holds a Bachelor of Arts from the George Washington University.[1][2]
Career[edit]
Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Dressel worked in international development. She is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of minister-counselor. She served as deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassy in Maputo, Mozambique. Prior to that, she was counselor for public affairs at the U.S. embassies in Colombia and Brazil. As the director of the Office of International Media Engagement in the Bureau of Public Affairs, Dressel led the U.S. Department of State's outreach to major international media outlets. Previous assignments include tours at the U.S. embassies in Lisbon, Portugal; Luanda, Angola; Lima, Peru; and San Salvador, El Salvador.[1] Since August 1, 2022, she has served as the deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina.[3]
On May 2, 2024, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Dressel to serve as the next United States ambassador to Angola and the United States ambassador to São Tomé and Príncipe.[4] Her nomination is pending before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.[5]

Dressel speaks fluent Spanish and Portuguese.[1]
