Prof Abdullahi A. Yusuf is an chemical and behavioural ecologist and entomologist in the department of Zoology and Entomology [1] and an associated with the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI), both at the University of Pretoria[2][3].
Prof Yusuf is publishing on a variety of insect taxa[4] and received in recognition of the work a rating[5] from the National Research Foundation of South Africa.
He is an editorial board member for Scientific reports[6], he serves and associate Editor for Journal Pest managment Science [7] and International Journal of Tropical Insect Science[8] and as a subject Editor for Insect Behaviour and Chemical Ecology for the Journal African Entomology[9].
Prof Yusuf is one of 36 current ambassador scientists of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation[10].
Prof Yusuf did his PhD in Entomology in 2010 under the supervision of Prof Robin Crewe and Prof Christian Pirk[11], followed by a post docs in Social Insects Research Group and then was appointed in 2016 as a senior lecturer in the Department and promoted to associate professor in 2022[1].
Prof Yusuf has published more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals[12][13] Over the years he has supervised and co-supervised a number of post graduated students. His current cohort includes more than 10 PhD students, including Mr Jackson Muyobela[14] who doing his PhD in Entomology on “Effective methods for identifying isolated populations of Savasetse flies: host orientation behaviour, morphometrics, chemical ecology, and population genetics“ and is as well supervised by Prof Catherine Sole and Prof Christian Pirk.
Awards:
In 2015 Prof Yusuf received an Georg Forster Research Fellowship Programme for Experienced Researchers[15] from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and he spend his fellowship at the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Halle (Saale), Germany being hosted by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Robin F. A. Moritz and Prof. Dr. Robert Paxton[15].
During the 2019 annual general meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Prof Yusuf received the Humboldt Alumni Award handed over by the, then chancellor of Germany, Frau Dr Angela Merkel[16][17]l.
