Bakirov Abbas[1] (16.05.1910. - Andijan - 29.01.1974.) is a famous Uzbek actor and theater director. People's Artist of Uzbekistan (1939).

Early Life and Education:

Abbas Bakirov was born on May 16, 1910 in Andijan. His father, Said Bakir Ubaydullah, was an educated man, who was also familiar with medical science, and he was engaged in making covers. His mother, Sadayikhan Syed Waqqas, was also one of the educated women of her time. The actor was the youngest of four children in the family. From a young age, he loved art and was skilled in performing various characters. It is for this reason that his passion for theater and art led him to the world of theater and cinema. The famous actor graduated from the Institute of Art and Culture of Uzbekistan.

He started his acting career in 1931 as an actor in the Andijan regional musical drama and comedy theater[2] named after Yoldosh Okhunbobayev[3]. During this period, the director of the theater was Muhitdin Qoriyoqubov, the artistic director was Tokhtasyn Dzhalilov. Abbas Bakirov worked at the Andijan Theater for almost 50 years. At first, he was a stage worker, then he was promoted to the position of actor, director, chief director and artistic director. The actor was mainly mentored by Ishaqkhan Qori Karimov[4] in his directorial career. While working as an actor in the theater, he performed notable first roles such as Mahkam Polvan ("Gardener Girl"), Kasim Dehghan ("Ontarish"), Muslimboy ("Halima"). With such characters as Rustam ("Rustam"), Ferdinand ("Scheming and Love"), Ghafir ("The Servant of the Rich"), Romeo ("Romeo and Juliet"), he was in the hearts of the audience. The actor performed the role of Romeo with great skill. Bakirov, being a determined and aspirational person by nature, tried to instill these feelings into his images.

Directorial Career:

After performing many roles in the theater, the artist entered the world of cinema with great experience. The role of Azamat in the first Uzbek sound film - "Azamat" in 1939 - started his career in cinema. After that, he was entrusted with new roles. In 1943, he was invited to the films "Nasriddin in Bukhara" and in 1955, "The Breakup of the Emirate". The character of Amir Olimkhan in the film "The Breakup of the Emirates" shot by directors Latif Fayziyev[5] and Vladimir Basov brought great fame to the actor.

The best roles: Amir Olim Khan ("The Breakup of the Emirates"), Sultan Mahmud ("Abu Ali ibn Sina"), Abbas ("The Star of Ulugbek"), Azam Khan ("The Saga of Two Hearts"), Yusufbek Haji ("The Past Days") and other people especially the role of Yusufbek Haji showed Bakirov to be a master of realistic art in showing his faith and worldview in a common way with his personal experience. Bakirov played positive and negative roles equally skillfully. He skillfully used his body and hand movements on stage, especially his face, eyes and tone. He started working as a director since 1940 and staged more than 40 plays. Due to his good knowledge of folk history and traditions, Bakirov brought national works to the public with great success: "Alisher Navoi", "Shahi suzana", "Aching teeth", "Muqimi", "Kholishkhan", "Nurkhan", "Nadira" , "Layli and Majnun" and others are among them.

Romeo in "Romeo and Juliet":

Skillfully playing the role of Romeo in Shakespeare's famous work "Romeo and Juliet" caused the actor to take a firm place in the hearts of the audience[6]. The creator tried to reveal the inner world of the hero of the work by skillfully performing Romeo's movements and facial expressions. This role had a significant impact on Abbas Bakirov's career.

Later Career:

After creating the character of Amir Olimkhan, at the end of his creative years, he played the roles of Sultan Mahmud in the film "Abu Ali ibn Sina", Sheikh Ismail in the film "Hamza" (1961), Koplonbek in the film "Storm over Asia", Yusufbek Haji in the film "The Past Days".

The artist dedicated his life to art. He lived for art, created immortal works. His selfless services were highly appreciated and in 1939 he was one of the first to be awarded the honorary title of "People's Artist of Uzbekistan". In addition, the artist was awarded the following titles and awards:

People's Artist of Uzbekistan is an honorary title of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It is awarded to famous artists for their special services in the development of theater, music, cinema, pop, circus, television and radio broadcasting, training and education of creative personnel in the republic.

As a theater and film actor and director, he left an immortal legacy for future generations. Abbas Bakirov created his own school of creativity in terms of loving his profession and performing roles with all his strength. His work is studied with great interest by young actors and art people. In order to perpetuate the name of the artist, Andijan city youth theater and one of the cinemas in the city were named after Abbas Bakirov.

Abbas Bakirov married actress Kamara Burnasheva[7] in 1940. Kamara Burnasheva is an actress, singer. People's Artist of Uzbekistan (1960).

Their daughter Oybarchin Bakirova was born on June 27, 1957. She is also an actress and was awarded the title of People's Artist of Uzbekistan in 2000.
