A Jar of Cranberry Sauce; or, the Crime in Room 13 is a 1910 silent short film. The film, characterized by its comedic narrative and early cinema techniques, revolves around a humorous series of events triggered by a misunderstanding involving a jar of cranberry sauce and a hotel room.
Plot
[edit]The narrative follows Silas, a farmer who takes a jar of his favorite cranberry sauce on a trip to the city. Upon arriving at his hotel, Silas struggles to open the jar, creating a disturbance that his neighbor interprets as a crime. Mistakenly believing a violent act is occurring in Room 13, the neighbor calls the police, leading to a series of comical misunderstandings. By the time the hotel staff and police arrive to investigate, they find that the jar has already been broken. The film humorously depicts the chaos that ensues as the misunderstanding is gradually resolved.
