In the late 1980s, Scandia was acquired by the Swiss-Swedish multinational corporation ABB (Asea Brown Boveri), leading to the name ABB Scandia. The company continued producing trains and other rolling stock under this name.

In 1996, ABB Scandia became part of Adtranz, a joint venture between ABB and Daimler-Benz, which was later acquired by Bombardier Transportation. The factory in Randers continued to operate under Bombardier until it was eventually closed in the early 2000s.
