Association Football Club Viejo, commonly referred to as simply A.F.C. Viejo (pronunciation) or Viejo, is an amateur football club based in Hayward, California, United States of America. It competes in the Bay Area Soccer League, Hayward. The team plays its matches and practices at the Alden E. Oliver Sports Park.
Founded in 2023, A.F.C. Viejo's emblem is a California Quail standing upon a football on a heraldic shield displaying local landmarks, with the Latin motto Irrumado Nos Pila ("Fuck it, we ball"). The club wears green, gold, and black as their home kit since the 2024-25 season.
History
[edit]Formation (2023 - present)
[edit]The club was formed on 30, September 2023 by a group of friends led by Bodhi Young. They were former and current employees of the Lake Chabot Golf Course and the football club was formed as a way for the group to play the sport in a more organized manner. The group was organized under the moniker Project Mbappé on 11 November 2023 as a reference to popular internet videos of football fans training their children at a very young age in an effort to create the next Kylian Mbappé, a French Footballer who currently plays for Real Madrid CF.
The group officially took on the name A.F.C. Viejo on 25 November 2024 and is named after Arroyo Viejo ("Old Creek" in Spanish). This 5.1 mile long creek begins in the Oakland Hills in Alameda County, California and joins Lion Creek just before entering the San Leandro Bay, a part of eastern San Francisco Bay.[1]
Initially, the Hayward side played games between themselves and friendly matches against other local clubs. The first recorded match took place on 13 December 2024 against a local team named Alcones F.C. which Viejo lost 4-1. The team entered their first league match in the Bay Area Soccer League, Hayward on 10 January 2025.
