- April 18: The NHL announces the establishment of a franchise based in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the hockey assets of the Arizona Coyotes; the Coyotes franchise is subsequently marked inactive, with re-activation contingent on the construction of a new arena by 2029.[1]

- June 24: The Florida Panthers defeat the Edmonton Oilers four games to three in the Stanley Cup Finals to win their first Stanley Cup.
