The 2024 Portugal earthquake struck Portugal, Spain, Gibraltar and Morocco on 26 August at 04:11 UTC. According to the IPMA, the earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.3 (Richter scale) and the maximum felt intensity was IV/V (modified Mercalli intensity scale).[1] It is the third largest earthquake to hit Portugal, the second one is the 1969 one and the first one is the 1755 one. The earthquake was recorded at 5:11 am local time (6:11 am CET), with its epicenter 58 kilometres west of Sines, on the high seas, and at a depth of 21 kilometres, according to the IPMA.[2]
