The name .alt is reserved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a top-level domain name that may not be installed as a top-level domain in the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet. It is a special-use domain similar to .arpa, intended for applications where the DNS protocol is not used.[1]

.alt was formally specified by RFC 9476 in September 2023.

Usage

There are currently no established protocols that make use of this TLD. Drafts of the GNU Name System are using .alt as of 2023.[2]
