Prof. Svilen Maslyankov is a Bulgarian physician and university professor, specialising in oncological, plastic, minimally invasive and coloproctological surgery. He heads the department of reconstructive breast surgery at Alexandrovska University Hospital in Sofia. He is among the pioneers of multidisciplinary treatment of oncological diseases in Bulgaria[1].
Biography
[edit]Svilen Maslyankov was born on April 23, 1973 in Veliko Tarnovo. He completed his secondary education at the "Vasil Drumev" High School of Science and Mathematics, after which he rad medicine at Medical University - Sofia, graduating in 1997. He specialised in general surgery at Dr. Stefan Cherkezov Hospital, Veliko Tarnovo[2]. Since 2012 he has worked in one of Bulgaria's largest hospitals, Alexandrovska University Hospital. In 2012, he defended his thesis on the topic "Measuring the quality of life of patients with rectal cancer - an opportunity to refine the surgical treatment" and was awarded the degree Doctor of Medicine (MD). Since 2017 he has been an associate professor, and since 2024, a full professor at Medical University - Sofia[3]
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Maslyankov does research in the field of oncosurgery and cancer. He has published over 100 articles in Bulgarian and international medical journals. In 2015, he published a monograph on the topic "Rectal cancer - modern aspects", and in 2021 he was the principal editor of the monograph "Multidisciplinary approach in the diagnosis and treatment of breast carcinoma”[4]. He teaches surgery at the Medical University - Sofia, regularly lecturing to both Bulgarian and international students. In 2023 he was recognised with an honorary sign "SIGNUM LAUDIS" on a leather plaque for special merits to the university[2]. Dr. Maslyankov is married with 4 sons.
