Education and Career

[edit]

Özgür Eren Zariç completed his primary and secondary education in Kars and graduated from high school as the top student[5]. Winning the fundamental science support scholarship provided by YÖK, Zariç has participated in research in fields such as hydrobiology, ecology, and biotechnology while continuing his university education.[6] Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Abuzer Çelekli, Zariç has focused on intensive research in ecology and biotechnology, particularly on projects concerning aquatic ecosystems, diatom ecology, and environmental biotechnology [7]. In this context, he examined the biological diversity, water quality, and ecological status of the lake in his comprehensive research on Çıldır Lake. The research details the flora and fauna of the lake, as well as the macrophytes and phytoplankton.[8]

Scientific Work and Publications

[edit]

Özgür Eren Zariç's research focuses on producing solutions to ecological and environmental problems [2][9]. Zariç has also gained prominence in the scientific community with his innovative research on transforming the Martian atmosphere [3]. The article titled “Breathing Life into Mars: Terraforming and the Pivotal Role of Algae in Atmospheric Genesis,” published in the Life Sciences in Space Research journal of the European Space Research Committee (COSPAR) [10], provides biotechnological solutions for making Mars’ atmosphere habitable. This work examines the survival potential of microorganisms through biotechnological applications under Martian conditions [10]. His review titled "Rising Tide of Ocean Acidification" addresses the negative impacts of ocean acidification on ecosystems and discusses necessary solutions for sustainability [11]. Zariç’s other works focus on the protection of aquatic ecosystems, biotechnological applications, and solutions against climate change [12][13][14].
