Devoured by the Mouth of Hell is the upcoming debut studio album by British metalcore band Heriot. It will be released on 27 September 2024 through Century Media Records. The album was recorded by Sylosis frontman and former Architects guitarist Josh Middleton and mixed by Will Putney (Fit for an Autopsy, End and Better Lovers).[2]

Background and recording

[edit]

In 2022, Heriot released their third extended play, Profound Morality, which gave the band considerable exposure.[3][4] In February 2023, they released "Demure", which they touted as the start of a "new era" for the band.[5] Heriot began working on Devoured by the Mouth of Hell in March 2023.[3][6] Compared to Profound Morality, which was written amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Heriot approached the album with their live show in mind.[6] Writing was put on hold as Heriot toured Europe during the summer.[3][6] In November 2023, the band signed with Century Media Records and returned to writing, which continued until January 2024.[3][7][8] In February and March 2024,[8] the band recorded the album with co-producer Josh Middleton, best known as the frontman of Sylosis and ex-guitarist of Architects.[2] Justin Hill of Sikth engineered the album's drums, and Will Putney of Fit for an Autopsy handled mixing.[2][9]

Release and promotion

[edit]

On 2 May 2024, Heriot released "Siege Lord".[10][11] On 5 June 2024, the band announced the release of Devoured by the Mouth of Hell and released its second single, "Foul Void".[12] Throughout June 2024, Heriot performed at the Rock im Park and Rock Am Ring,[13] Download,[14] Resurrection, Jera on Air and Hellfest festivals.[15] They also performed at the inaugural Bastard Fest in July.[16] On 14 August 2024, the band released "At the Fortress Gate" as the third single,[17] alongside a music video filmed by Harry Steel during their 2024 festival shows.[18][19] The album will be released on 27 September 2024. On the day of the album's release, Heriot will perform an "Album Release Show" at The Exchange in Bristol, supported by Cauldron.[20] Between 22 November and 21 December 2024, the band will support Sylosis and Fit for an Autopsy on their co-headlining tour of Europe.[21]
