Denise Nolan (born 6 April 1952) is an Irish singer, songwriter and actress. She was a member of The Nolans.[1]
Biography
[edit]Early life
[edit]Nolan was born in Dublin, Ireland, on 6 April 1952, the third of eight children born to Tommy and Maureen Nolan (15 December 1926 – 30 December 2007), with sisters Anne, Maureen, Linda, Bernie, and Coleen and brothers Tommy and Brian.[1] The family lived in Raheny, a suburb of Dublin, before moving to Blackpool, England in 1962.[1]
The Nolans
[edit]Denise, along with her sisters, were a part of the singing group The Nolans. The Nolans had a number one hit in 1979 with their song I'm in the Mood for Dancing. It charted at no.2 on Irish music charts, and was no. 1 on charts in Japan and South Africa. Denise then left the group for a long period of time.
Denise Nolan previously starred in London's musical Blood Brothers as Mrs Johnson.[2]
Later works
[edit]In February 2020, it was announced that Nolan and her sisters would appear in a new TV series for Quest Red, The Nolans Go Cruising,[3] a rival show to Channel 5's award-winning Cruising with Jane McDonald. Denise appeared in the second series, in which she performed both solo and as part of the group.[4]
In 2022, Denise Nolan released her debut album For You, My Love, singing songs from “The Great American Songbook” and Frank Sinatra.[5]
