The days celebrated in Bangladesh mean the days celebrated in Bangladesh and globally. All these days are listed below. Most of the days are and have been celebrated almost regularly. But some days, by different political powers, are not celebrated nationally during the reign of that political party. International and global days are celebrated following government and international allocation of funds.[1]
Bangladesh Days
[edit]Only Bangladesh's own days are called "Bangladesh Days". These days are celebrated only in Bangladesh. However, expatriate Bengalis living in different countries of the world also observe these days to a limited extent.
January
[edit]- National Social Service Day: January 2
- Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day*: 10 January
- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the leader of Bangladesh's independence war, returned to his homeland Bangladesh after 10 months of imprisonment during the liberation war of Bangladesh on this day in 1972.
- Martyr Asad Day: 20 January
- On this day in 1969, a student leader named Amanullah Asaduzzaman was shot dead by the police while marching to demand the fall of Ayub Shahi, the then ruler of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). He was one of the three martyrs of the then East Pakistan in the Bengali mass movement of 1969, the other two being Shaheed Rustam and Shaheed Matiur.[2]
- Mass Uprising Day: 24 January
- On this day in 1969, the students of East Pakistan resisted the then Pakistani rulers and took out a procession. Matiur Rahman, a ninth grade student, was killed in police firing during the procession. This day is celebrated to commemorate that uprising.
- Bengali Language in Computer Day: 25 January
- Expatriate engineer Saifuddahar Shahid launched the first Bengali script on Apple's Macintosh computer on this day in 1985.

- On this day in 1948, the day was officially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly and has been celebrated worldwide every year since then. The day is recognized by the United Nations and celebrated all over the world. But, in South Africa, the day commemorates the Sharpeville massacre is observed on March 21.[4]
- United Nations Arabic Language Day: 18 December
- International Migrants Day: 18 December
- The day has been celebrated since 2000 to demand the recognition of rights and contributions to the economy of their respective countries. On December 4 of that year, the 55th General Assembly of the United Nations decided to observe the People's Day.
