David Dragoo (born October 9, 1985) is an American entrepreneur and businessman. Dragoo earned a degree with honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2009, where he also participated in NCAA Division I athletics as an Academic All-American in golf.[1]

Career

[edit]

Dragoo is the founder of Mayfly, a Colorado-based company[2] and Certified B® Corporation.[3] Mayfly specializes in manufacturing premium fly fishing equipment, including brands Abel®, Ross Reels®, Airflo®, Renzetti®, and Dyna-King®.

The company is financial contributor[4] to fishing habitat and stream restoration, working closely with the Colorado chapter of Trout Unlimited.[5]

In 2015, Mayfly relocated to Montrose, Colorado where it exists today.[6][7]

In 2017, Dragoo initiated the Colorado Outdoors project, a 164-acre mixed-use development[8] in Montrose designed to attract businesses, many focused on outdoor recreation.[9][10] The project integrates residential, commercial, and industrial spaces, with a specific emphasis on river conservation,[11] sustainability[12] and community development.[13]

The large project[14] is also part of the Montrose Urban Renewal Authority (MURA).[15] Businesses in the project include manufacturing Shelter Distilling[16] and Secret Creek,[17] as well as a Fairfield by Marriott hotel.

The development is located along the Uncompahgre River, which underwent significant restoration[18] as part of the project and later became a CPW designated Colorado Quality Waters.[19] The improvements received a nearly $800,000 donation from Dragoo[20] and the City of Montrose received a $2M Great Outdoors Colorado grant[21] for a new trail system[22] along the river within the project.

Economic Development

[edit]

Dragoo's work in Colorado has been recognized for its contribution to Montrose's economic growth and diversification.[23][24]

In 2019, he was appointed to the Colorado Economic Development Commission, where he works with the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) to promote economic opportunities across the state.
