Creepy Nuts is a Japanese hip-hop duo consisting of DJ Matsunaga and R-Shitei. They made their major label debut in 2017.[2] Their fan club is called "Club Creepy Nuts".
The duo performed the opening and ending themes for various anime and live-action television series like Call of the Night,[3] Extremely Inappropriate!,[4] and Dandadan.[5] They also made the theme song of the Spring Koshien broadcasts in 2022.[6]
Their single "Bling-Bang-Bang-Born" was released on January 7, 2024, as the opening theme for the second season of the anime series Mashle: Magic and Muscles. It topped the Billboard Japan Hot 100 for eight consecutive weeks,[7] becoming the duo's first number-one single on the chart as lead artists.[8] It was also a worldwide hit, reaching number eight on the Billboard Global 200.[9]
Several songs have been certified by the Recording Industry Association of Japan in the streaming category, including "Nobishiro", which has been certified platinum.[10]
The duo announced on their final show of their 2024 one-man tour that they would perform at Tokyo Dome on February 11, 2025, marking their first dome performance.[11]

[edit]Full name is Kunihiko Matsunaga. Born on August 23rd, 1990 at Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Matsunaga dropped out of high school to pursue DJ. He has won a numerous amount of DJ tournaments, ultimately represented Japan to compete at DMC World Championship 2019 in London and triumphed. He was one of the performers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics' closing ceremony. Matsunaga was an occasional actor in several television movies and series
R-Shitei (R-指定) – MC / Rapper (Lyricist)
[edit]His real name is Kyohei Nogami. Born on September 10th, 1991 in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Nogami pursued law after graduating high school, but dropped out to pursue rap. Before forming Creepy Nuts, he's a freestyle rapper and won multiple MC battles. He's known for winning Japan's Ultimate MC Battle 3 times in a row (2012-2014). He took a break from freestyling until 2019 where he serves as a judge for an annual high school MC battle and Freestyle Dungeon. He is married to actor and talent Natsumi Eto. He is also a part of Umeda Cypher (a rapper group established in Umeda, Osaka, hence the name). Nogami was also an occasional actor and an author.
History
[edit]Formation and indie works (2013 - 2017)
[edit]R-Shitei and Matsunaga have known each other before, working on some of their own solo works. They decided to form Creepy Nuts in 2013. The group's name wasn't taken by them too seriously because they didn't think they are going to be popular. On August 26, 2015, they released their first single "Setsuna" (刹那). On January 20th, 2016, they released their first E.P "Tarinai Futari" (たりないふたり, lit. The Lacking Two) and a year later, February 1st, 2017, their second E.P "Joendaiyusho" (助演男優賞, lit. Best Supporting Actor), both released under the label Triggers. 2 national tours were held to accommodate the two releases.
Major debut and first major album (2017- 2018)
[edit]On April 9th, 2017, they announced they would make a major debut with Sony under their new label Creepers. Their debut single Koko Debut, Daigaku Debut, Zenbu Shippai Shitakedo Major Debut (高校デビュー、大学デビュー、全部失敗したけどメジャーデビュー, lit. High School Debut, University Debut, All Failed but Now Major Debut) released on November 8th, 2017. It was initially released on August 2nd but was postponed due to a series of setbacks.
On April 11th, 2018, their first studio album Creep Show (クリープ・ショー) was released. A tour with 20 performances at 20 music hall venues by the name "Creep Show 2018" was held from June 8th to November 16th. During the time, on July 25th, the compilation album "INDIES COMPLETE" which include all of the duo's songs from the indies time and 2 extra remixes from SPARK!!SOUND!!SHOW!! on 2 of their more popular songs.
Gaining recognition domestically (2019 - 2022)
[edit]Their first mini-album "Yofukashi no Uta" (よふかしのうた, lit. Song of The Night) released on August 7th, 2019 serving as Audrey's All Night Nippon's 10th anniversary theme song. The duo themselves are hosts of All Night Nippon 0 taking the 1am to 3am timeslot. It was on their 2nd mini-album "Katsute Tensaidatta Oretachie" (かつて天才だった俺たちへ, lit. To Us Former Prodigies) released August 26th, 2020 that gave them the buzz. The mini-album also have the 2 songs which the duo collaborated with Suda Masaki. It also lands them their first Nippon Budokan concert held on November 11th - 12th, 2020 (with reduced audience as measures against the COVID-19 pandemic). The same day was the day their official mobile fan club "CLUB Creepy Nuts" was established. A nation-wide tour which the final performance was held at Pia Arena MM was held also to promote the mini-album release.
On September 1st, 2021, their second major album "Case" was released. The track "Nobishiro" (のびしろ,lit. Room for Growth) has gotten extremely popular and for a while, the duo's most streamed song and is also their first song to get certified Platinum by RIAJ. A hall tour and 2 arena (namely Osaka Jo-Hall and Yokohama Arena) was held and sold out rather quickly.
A collaboration TWO-MAN LIVE named "Nariwai" (生業, lit. The Calling) held at Yoyogi National Gymnasium No.1 w/ Shonan no Kaze and Makuhari Messe Event Hall w/ WANIMA was held late 2021- early 2022. The duo also occasionally held TWO-MAN TOUR on the same name with other hip-hop group at Zepp halls, notably BAD HOP, Hilchryme and Rhymester. Their All Night Nippon also occasionally held events at open-air concert halls.
On March 20, 2022, the duo released their collaboration song with YOASOBI's Ayase and Ikuta Lilas "Bakamajime" (ばかまじめ, lit. Stupidly Serious)
Global recognition (2022 - present)
[edit]On July 8th, 2022, the duo released their single "Daten" (堕天) serving as the opening theme to the anime adaptation of Call of the Night which was taken inspirations of the duo's same name song. The song itself was the ending theme to the series.
On September 7th, 2022, they released their 3rd major album "Ensemble Play" (アンサンブル・プレイ). The album name was made by Matsunaga.
On March 27th, 2023, they broadcast their final All Night Nippon episode after 5 years. They returned briefly for one episode on February 19th, 2024 due to Ado (whose currently hosting at the time)'s poor health.
January 7th, 2024 oversaw their release of "Bling-Bang-Bang-Born". It became their biggest hit both domestically and internationally, serving as the opening theme to the second season of MASHLE, topping 12 different Billboard charts and peaked at number 8th at Billboard Global 200. They released their next song "Nidone" (二度寝,lit. Sleeping Twice) on January 27th, 2024, serving as the theme song for TV series Extremely Inapporiate!
On June 16th, 2024, via their first ever global livestream of their final show of their 2024 one-man tour at Yoyogi National Gymnasium No.1, they announced their first ever live at Tokyo Dome happening on February 11th, 2025. The tickets sold out at around October. A new album was also announced is in the work. They've been also invited to perform at a large number of events and festivals, notably selling out their first live show at AnimeNYC, alongside a confirmed first appearance at the 75th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen.
On October 4th, 2024, they released the digital single Otonoke (オトノケ), serving as the opening theme song for Dandadan.
