Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination (SSC CHSL) is a standardized test conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to recruit Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)/ Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) / Postal Assistant and Data Entry Operator(DEO) officers to various posts in ministries, departments and organisations of the Government of India. The Staff Selection Commission was established in 1975.[1]

Prerequisites

Candidates applying for the various posts need to have appearing/passed Higher Secondary Class from a recognised board of india at the time of applying. Applicants must be between 18 and 27 years of age.[2][3] The application fee for exam is Rs. 100. All women, people in Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes, physically disabled people, and ex-servicemen eligible for reservation are exempted from paying the application fee.[4]

Structure

The examination has two levels, Tier-1 & Tier-2.

Tier I

  • General Intelligence
  • General Awareness
  • Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill)
  • English Language (Basic Knowledge)

Tier-1 is an objective exam and conducted in CBT Mode. There is total 100 Questions with total 200 marks.[5] Based on results from Tier I, qualified candidates can then take the Tier II exam.[6]

Tier II

Candidates who qualify for SSC CHSL Tier 1 will proceed to SSC CHSL Tier 2, which consists of two sessions, each with specific sections. In Session I, the questions are MCQ-type, while in Session II, there’s a typing test/skill test to assess typing speed and skill.

    • Module 2 : Reasoning & General Intelligence

    • Module 1 : English Language and Comprehension
    • Module 2 : General Awareness
  • Session I - Section 3 :
