Cold Meat is a 2024 thriller film directed by Sébastien Drouin. It was released exclusively on Netflix on February 26, 2024.

Plot

[edit]

David Petersen (Allen Leech) is passing through the Colorado Rockies. After saving a young diner waitress, Ana (Nina Bergman) from her violent ex-husband during a break from driving, he hits the road again alone through a dangerous snow blizzard. One false move behind the wheel has him waking up inside a ravine, in the eye of the storm. But the cold is the least of his worries when a beast (possibly a wendigo) starts prowling outside. How will he survive?

Production

[edit]

Production of the film began in early 2023. It is Drouin's filmmaking debut. It was filmed in only thirteen days, in Prince George, British Columbia.[1] It is Paris-based WTFilms' second collaboration with UK production company Featuristic Films, after working together on James Kermack's action thriller Knuckledust in 2020.[2] The film was previewed at the FrightFest Film Festival in the United Kingdom on August 27, 2023.

Reception

[edit]

Cold Meat has a rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and became a global hit.[3] Particularly, it was praised for its tension between the two lead characters, acting, and the "uneasy element to everything (David) says that makes the film tick."[4] At the Portuguese film festival Fantasporto in 2024, Sébastien Drouin won an award for best screenplay for his work on the film.[5]
