Chunakkara ( ചുനക്കര )is a village in Mavelikara Tahsil of Alappuzha district, in the Indian state of Kerala.The only "sarvam swayambhu" shiva temple in india is situated in chunakkara [1] It is located on the Kollam Theni National Highway spanning in around 6 km (3.7 mi) in length along the highway. It is divided into 6 areas ( Thekkummuri, karimulakkal, komallur, Naduvilemuril, vadakkummuri, kizhakkummuri) and 15 wards. It is located 10.5 km (6.5 mi) south from Mavelikara and 15 km (9.3 mi) west of Kayamkulam. Nearest railway stations are Kayamlulam railway station and Mavelikara railway station, both are accessible by public and private transports.

•Chunakkara temple
Chunakkara Thiruvayiroor Mahadevar temple is a Lord Shiva temple one of the most importent shiva temple in kerala.1400 years old temple The temple is noted for its wooden sculptures. The round sreekovil made of granite has wooden walls and they have beautiful sculptures. There are dwarapalaka murtis in front of the temple. Some of the important sculptures in the temple are of four-armed Ganapathy, Saraswati, Shiva Thandavam, Goddess Kali, Uma Maheshwara, Sastha in hunting posture, yakshi, Gopika vastraharan, Venugopala Krishnan, Sita under shimshapavriksha, Ravana Prathapam, Sethubandhanam, Viraraman, Krishna Leela, Mahavishnu, Lakshminarayanan, Ananthashayanam, Durga, Aghora Shiva and Govardhana Krishnan.
•Chunakkara temple history
Legend has it that, in ancient times, a Kurava woman was harvesting grass when her sickle accidentally struck a sacred stone, causing it to bleed. This remarkable event led to the construction of the Chunakkara Temple, also known as Chunakkara Thiruvairoor Mahadevar Temple, on the advice of Ayroor Thamburan, the loyal bodyguard of the Kayamkulam king. The temple features a circular sanctum made of granite with intricately carved wooden walls adorned with beautiful sculptures. At the temple's entrance, you'll find imposing dwarapalaka murtis.
The Upa Devatas in the temple are Mahavishnu, Subrahmaniyan, Dharmasastha, Ittilayappan and Bhagavathi. On the south side of Nalambalam there is the murti of Yogeshwaran. All the Upa Devatas are believed to be swayambhu.
•Chunakkara kettulsavam
Kettulsavam is the most spectacular sight of the festival and is held in the evening. Kettulsavam from the distinct areas of the village come to the chunakkara kalikandam(കളികണ്ടം)(Festival ground). The 10-day annual festival in the temple begins on Thiruvathira Nakshatra day in Makaram month.one of most biggest festival in Alappuzha district The major annual festivals are Chunakkara aarattu or thiruvulsavam (held on the January–February)These concepts are related to the agricultural prosperity of Onattukara.
The festival is noted for Kettukazhcha. The Ashtami in Kumbham month is observed in the temple. Another important festival is Shivaratri.
