Chikako Asō

Chikako Aso (born 30 May 1950) is a Japanese businesswoman. She has served as director of Aso Shoji, Aso Formcrete, Aso Kosan, and is currently a director of Aso Corporation . She was the First Lady of Japan from 24 September 2008 to 16 September 2009.

Her father is former Prime Minister Zenkō Suzuki, her husband is former Prime Minister Taro Aso, and her brother is Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki.[1]

She graduated from Japan Women's University.[citation needed]

She met Taro Aso, and they married on 3 November 1983. He was defeated in the 1983 Japanese general election, but was elected in the 1986 Japanese general election. She helped build the Shikōkai faction.[2] From 2008 to 2009, he was Prime Minister,[3][4][5] and from 2012 to 2021, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister.[6]

Since the 1990s, she has served as a director of Aso Shoji, which handles construction materials,[7] Aso Foamcrete, a civil engineering company, and Aso Kosan, an insurance agency . She also served as a director of Aso, a company run by her brother-in-law, Yasushi Aso. Aso is the core company of the ASO Group, and oversees Aso Kosan and other companies. In the 2010s, Chikako continued to serve as a director of Aso, even after Yasushi's eldest son, Iwao Aso, became president of Aso [8]
