The Center for Near And Middle Eastern Studies is a research center focused on the MENA Region at the University of Marburg.
Background
[edit]At Philipps University of Marburg, research on the Middle East has a tradition spanning 125 years, with generations of scholars studying the region extensively. Continuing this legacy, the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS) was established in 2007 to consolidate and advance research on the Near and Middle East, both past and present.
Housed in a renovated historic building, the CNMS boasts seven professorial chairs. Its staff conducts diverse research across contemporary social and economic issues, as well as philology, history, and Islamic and cultural studies. Over the past decade, the center has secured substantial funding to expand and diversify its research initiatives, addressing both current political, social, and economic challenges and historical topics in cultural and linguistic studies.
