Stave church replicas

[edit]

There are a lot of stave church replicas. Many of them is reconstructions of some previous or existing church, but a lot of them are free interpretations of the basic theme and some with additional interpretations of what a stave church should look like. An example of a faith full replica is Heimaey stave church which is a copy of Holtålen stave church, other replicas may be rather far off. In Germany there is the Gustav Adolf Stave Church. There are the St. Swithun's, a stave church in Warren County, Indiana, the Halmens Cemetery Chapel at Holmens Cemetery in Copenhagen, Denmark and so forth. In the Norwegian (bokmål) project the following Norwegian replicas are described Fantoft stavkirke, Endrekyrkja, Gol nye stavkirke, Heimaey stavkirke, Kolbrandsdal stavkirke, Stavkirka på Savjord and Svartdal kapell.
