Wales and Scotland are considered countries or nations in the Sovereign state of the United Kingdom (see also, Countries of the United Kingdom).
Since they are not generally regarded as regions, is it appropriate to include them here? I would suggest that they should be in a more appropriately named category along with the likes of Greenland. Titus Gold (talk) 13:56, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
- Perhaps an appropriate subcategory could be formed? Titus Gold (talk) 13:58, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
- Despite the fact that the word "region" is used in various official designations (or their English versions), as in "Uyghur Autonomous Region" and the regions of France, "region" is a generic word, like "area". Its value in the title of this category is that it's loose enough to cover any geographic expanse within which some authority has given official status to one or more languages. - As each country in Europe has different terms for its political subdivisions, the term "regions" in the name of this category cannot possibly be understood in any technical or country-specific sense. I therefore see no reason to either change it to a different term (which would also not be the correct technical term in most countries) or to create different categories based on the official terms, which would defeat the purpose of having this category. The current name of this category is just fine. LandLing 14:42, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
