anti-geo-phil

[edit]

I'm not an advocate of entrenching geo-philosophy, which tends to support a number of rather non-philosophical characterisations in the first instance, but I'm more accepting when it fits into another existing schema of some generality (like professions by nationality), which does not indicate that there is something particularly unique about geographical divisions of philosophy that can be better conveyed by using continents as an intermediate grouping. I'm putting all related categories up for deletion in support of the previous order. Buffyg 02:35, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I thought it might be a good way to have a place to link to Eastern philosophers or Soviet philosophers without having to have completely unrelated categories. It may also avoid the British vs. English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh problem. KSchutte

Not inclusive enough

[edit]

The concept of continents leave outisde islands, archipelagos and so on, where philosophical thinking can grow as well. The current definition affects, for example, the categorization of , which in the present moment is a subcategory of North America philosophers, an absurdity. In portuguese wikipedia we applied a bigger concept of philosophers by region of the world, which can be better approximated to such kind of spatialities.
