Category naming

[edit]

Categories placed here should generally be of the form Category:People from Epping Forest District.

There are some exceptions to this:

There are 326 potential subcategories. MRSC (talk) 17:19, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why? Category:People from South Kesteven (district) is tautological. South Kesteven is a district - that is all it is.--Robert EA Harvey (talk) 17:59, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We seem to be a bit inconsistent with that. For example Category:People from Bassetlaw is also without the (district) suffix and there are others. A WP:CFR request can fix it. MRSC (talk) 18:13, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'm not burning to change anything. I was just puzzled by the idea--Robert EA Harvey (talk) 18:18, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think the erring on the side of (district) in general is to make absolutely clear we are dealing with local government districts and not localities and therefore making the hierarchy of categories clear. The administrative geography of the UK is complicated and poorly understood by many readers. MRSC (talk) 18:51, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
