nomenclature issue

[edit]

Parasitoid Behavior: The wasp hunts and captures a fly, paralyzing it and using it as a host for its egg. The wasp larva then develops inside the living but immobilized fly, eventually killing it. This behavior is characteristic of parasitoid wasps, which are neither purely predators nor parasites but fall into their own category. Unlike a true parasite, which typically does not kill its host, a parasitoid's lifecycle inevitably results in the host's death. Wikipedia is fairly clear on the use of the term parasitoid though it is not distinguished from parasite all the time. Changing the name is above my pay grade as to what to do with all the pages using this category in error. I could start a category for parasitoid wasps but it sems that would create more smoke than light. Styrphid Fox (talk) 17:37, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
