Open Orthodox vs Modern Orthodox

[edit]

When writing wikipedia articles for people and institutions associated with the left-wing of Orthodox Judaism, we have congnizant of the debate within the broader Orthodox community as to terminology of where these people and institutions exist within Judaism.

The more more right-wing communities within Orthodox Judaism consider these institutions as "Open Orthodox" a proper noun and a break-away movement from Orthodoxy, while the institutions and people themselves tend to use Modern Orthodox as their label and once used open orthodox as a description of their left-wing positions.

I think we need to discuss how to fairly describe these people and institutions. I beleive that the summary on top of each page should reflect how the person or institution self-identifies, and for each institution where there is criticism from other Orthodox communities, we can add a section detailing that criticism.

Furthermore, it is worth considering if this tag is useful and should continue to exist. Itsik.isserles (talk) 13:24, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
