reports on coverage
[edit]This note concerns coverage of prominent teams by player pages and "members by team" categories. The actual reports on that coverage are in the linked "Category talk" pages.
For the following teams, using Marshall Wright and occasionally other references, I have reported "coverage" at the Talk pages for the players by team Categories (and linked those pages here).
- 1869-1870 - Category talk:Brooklyn Atlantics (NABBP) players
- only 1870 - Category talk:Chicago White Stockings (NABBP) players
- 1869-1870 - Category talk:Cincinnati Red Stockings players
- 1869-1870 - Category talk:Cleveland Forest Citys (NABBP) players
- 1869-1870 - Category talk:New York Mutuals (NABBP) players
- only 1870 - Category talk:Rockford Forest Citys (NABBP) players
Before reporting I have categorized all of the player pages that belong to the team based on these seasons. Thus for any listed team-season all existing player pages should be in the category prior to the coverage report. --P64 (talk) 21:24, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
- more reports
- only 1869 - Category talk:Brooklyn Eckfords (NABBP) players
- 1868,1870 - Category talk:Morrisania Unions players
- 1865-1870 - Category talk:Philadelphia Athletics (NABBP) players
- 1869-1870 - Category talk:Troy Haymakers (NABBP) players
- 1869-1870 - Category talk:Washington Olympics (NABBP) players
So I have reported coverage of eight 1869 and ten 1870 teams, essentially the stronger two-thirds of 10 and 15 known professional teams. I have also reported on a few earlier ones, prior to the professional era (Unions 1868, Athletics 1865-1868).
Openly professional teams without any report yet:
- 1869 - Marylands, Irvingtons, Keystones, Nationals
- 1870 - Marylands, Eckfords, Tri-Mountains, Riversides, Nationals
Essentially these were the weaker one-third of 10 and 15 pro teams. Most of them played few games. --P64 (talk) 02:36, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- except Tri-Mountains and Riversides they now have subcategories (see this category) and the associated Category talk pages have shorter reports on coverage.
- The Tri-Mountains of Boston and the Riversides of Portsmouth OH played only a few professional games. They don't have "players by team" subcategories and they may never have a player with a page here. Their 1870 teams apparently include only one major leaguer, Frank Barrows of the Tri-Mountains.
- Otherwise all other professional members of the NABBP (the clubs named in this overview) now have subcategories here. Further, I have categorized all of their 1869 and 1870 players pages, at least, and I have provided shorter reports on coverage. The shorter reports list all their major leaguers who do not have pages but they do not list other players on the 1869-1870 teams (no page, no major league play). --P64 (talk) 20:42, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
