@Bearcat: The word "Legislator" is not in common use in Ireland, even within politics specific spaces. I believe moving articles from "LGBT politicians from Ireland" to "LGBT legislators in Ireland" to be an unnecessary and confusing move. CeltBrowne (talk) 12:55, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Well, then why were the vast majority of them also filed in Category:LGBT legislators? When you've got ten or more Irish people sitting in Category:LGBT legislators, then there needs to be an Ireland-specific subcategory to move them into. And, for that matter, why has the Category:Legislators in Ireland parent category also already existed for almost a decade without complaint? Bearcat (talk) 13:16, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would imagine Category:Legislators in Ireland has largely gone unnoticed as all the entries are several subcategories below it, in categories such as Category:Members of the 33rd Dáil and Category:21st-century Teachtaí Dála.
If this category is deemed necessary, then I would suggest we rename this category Category:LGBT Members of the Oireachtas. The term "Oireachtas" means both houses of the Irish parliament. Category:Members of the Oireachtas already exists and reflects this. The proposed renamed category would mirror cats such as Category:LGBT members of the Parliament of New Zealand but cover a wider base. It would also mirror Category:Women members of the Oireachtas.
How does that sound? CeltBrowne (talk) 14:22, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, part of the problem is that not everybody from Ireland who was in Category:LGBT legislators was a member of the Oireachtas — a couple of them are or were also MEPs, which means that any cross-categorization that intersects Category:LGBT legislators with Category:LGBT politicians from Ireland has to include them too. Bearcat (talk) 14:35, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if we want to account for MEPs, then we could go the format of Category:LGBT legislators in the United Kingdom and have two subcategories, Category:LGBT Members of the Oireachtas and Category:LGBT MEPs from Ireland. CeltBrowne (talk) 15:03, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
