It is a little ambiguous at least in jazz the exact meaning of "band leader". Actually most acknowledged jazz musicians, sooner or later, have led projects of their own. I would restrict this category to musicians that have led big bands or long time projects. This will add the connotation of manager/arranger to the musician being added.
