"Irish" vs Irish American??

[edit]

Arguably less half this list actually belongs here , as the rest should be classed as Irish American ( if you want to research characters that are from the island of Ireland or have a direct modern connection to it , a reference to Eric O'Grady who is a US character and has zero connection to Ireland in storylines is less than useless). So assuming the criteria for being Irish would be , :being from the island of Ireland , or having a parent directly from Ireland, or possibly living there for an extended length of time (basically the criteria for Irish citizenship) the ones that do definitely belong here would be:

the Gay Ghost (later renamed grim ghost, because ..well language changes over time, also the link here is to another Grim Ghost)

Jack O' Lantern (well one of them anyway ),

Banshee ,and his daghter Syrin,(so they would , begob! also Shake a Shilleighlah , its Black Tom Cassidy ..who is probably due a name change , as language changes over time)

Shamrock (who quit superheroism to be a hairdresser, which honestly was a career upgrade)

Sláine (arguable,as he's not really a superhero , and technically he predates Ireland , but he's basically the irish legend Cúchullain so he gets a pass) , Kyle Rayner(Irish mammy , who was from Belfast and involved in the IRA , because in comics , everyone from Belfast is in fact in the IRA,)

Hellstrike,(He's from Belfast , but ISNT in the IRA )

Captain America (yeah incredibly the guy with America gets a pass as "word of god" from Marvel to Chris Evans was that Cap's parents were Irish Imigrants , and also its been used in some storylines for him , [also its a real life Retcon as to why there's been a Captain America's cafe in Dublin Ireland since the 70s)

Arguable entries

Dr Druid (he's listed as an "Irish " psychiatrist ? but with no extra details this could mean Irish American).

Hitman (he's Irish American , but given Garth Ennis is his creator he maybe 1st generation)

The "my grandfather saw Brigadoon once , kiss me I'm oirish" entries that dont belong here but would belong in an Irish American list:

Ant Man Eric O'Grady (because O means Oirish!)

Batman Terry McGinnis (not even McGuinness!?!)

Black Canary Dinah Laurel/Dinah Drake (has an Irish American dad in some versions)

Spiderman 2099 Miguel O'Hara (about as much connection to actual Ireland as Chief O'Hara from Batman 66 ..i.e. none)

The WTF zero reason they should be here at all entries

Atom Eve /Ant

The ..very small ..hey wait a minute they actually should be here list :

Daredevil Matthew Murdock :1602 Neil Gayman's 1602 DD IS actually from Ireland , and voices his concerns on anything happening to it to King James

Daredevil 2001 movie Bullseye (played by Colin Farrell using his own accent , he's a villain , but killing a racist old lady with a peanut and saving the movie from being totally awful gets him an upgrade to anti hero).

Blarney Cock (The Boys , Queen Maeves (secret) son , raised in Ireland , awful name /awful human being but technically a hero)

Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the DC Bombshells universe (lives in a lighthouse off the coast of Ireland )

Dark Mist(Batman Incorporated) (Dublin Vigilante with a similar backstory to Oracle) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrsunnybones (talkcontribs) 00:10, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
