Question about category[edit]

The category looks as if it was originally meant to include the trails and roads that were used for movement of peoples and goods from one area to another - trails/roads that were built on top of historic Native American trails, or blazed new to mark pioneer and auto ways.

A category has also been used to cover a new kind of trail - heritage or cultural trails in which sites are designated by a community or state. Is this the best way to identify such trails, or should we create a separate category - say, Cultural Trails, or Heritage Trails? Maybe it is better to put them all under one category, but I can see an advantage to creating a separate one - so that people know more about what they're seeing or can find it more easily. I'm working on material related to a newly designated Louisiana African American Heritage Trail, which includes more than 20 sites, both pedestrian sites within the city of New Orleans, and sites reachable only by car. Because this is a growing category which states are using for heritage tourism and economic development, I think it deserves its own category.--Parkwells (talk) 11:19, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
