Why 1576?

[edit]

I'd like to see a reference to a critic or similar justifying why 1576 can be said to be the start of the English theatre Renaissance. I would've included Ars Adulandi; Or, The Art of Flattery by Ulpian Fulwell, or his Like Will to Like (both written in the 1560s), or evenWitty and Wittless(1525) by John Heywood.

A definition of "Renaissance literature" in terms of the impact of humanism, or its style, or aims or such (or a link to a page with a definition) would be good.

-- 1576 is when James Burbage constructed the first dedicated English playhouse, The Theatre, in Shoreditch, so it's used as a point of demarcation for professional, non-traveling theatre companies and their plays. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.100.65.97 (talk) 21:06, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
