Category:Astronomical discoveries by institution

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This category should not directly contain any astronomical objects. Instead, an appropriate subcategory should be used or created. Articles in this hierarchy should contain an institution as the official discoverer. If a person is also named, also use the appropriate subcategory in Category:Discoveries by astronomer.

For asteroids in a category with no other sortkey instructions, use a 0-padded, 6-digit sortkey based on their numerical designation. Otherwise, use their provisional designation. For example:

  • 8721 AMOS would use [[Category:Discoveries by AMOS|008721]].
  • (78799) 2002 XW93 would use [[Category:Discoveries by the Palomar observatory|078799]].

When creating new subcategories, please follow the subcategory nomenclature:

  • "Discoveries by <acronym>", or
  • "Discoveries by <University name> University", or
  • "Discoveries by <College name> College", or
  • "Discoveries by the <institution name>",

so that naming and sortkey conventions can be kept separate and distinct from Category:Discoveries by astronomer subcategories.
