BuiltX

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BuiltX Sustainable Design & Construction (BuiltX SDC) is an Indian architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) firm that focuses on sustainable and socially impactful infrastructure projects for the non-profit sector. BuiltX is known for being the first AEC firm in India solely dedicated to collaborating with non-profit organizations, with a focus on healthcare, cultural and education sectors.

History

[edit]

BuiltX was founded in late 2021 by Abdul Aleem, a civil engineer and graduate of Stanford University. The company was established in response to the challenges faced by non-profits in India, particularly during the second wave of the COVID- 19 pandemic in Bihar. Aleem recognized a critical need for robust healthcare infrastructure and noted that many non-profits were hindered by limited budgets, substandard construction quality, and delays caused by local contractors. BuilX is also described as a pioneer in delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions tailored specifically for non-profits in India.[1]

Sustainability and social -pact

[edit]

BuiltX integrates sustainability and social impact at the core of its operations, focusing on energy-efficient designs and eco-friendly materials. This approach aims to reduce carbon emissions and ensure the longevity of the infrastructure. Guided by empathy, integrity, and innovation, BuiltX collaborates with non-profits to deliver high-quality, affordable projects that align with green building standards.

BuiltX is transforming the construction industry by addressing challenges such as budget constraints and delays faced by non-profits.[2] BuiltX combines sustainability with affordability to empower non-profits and maximize their social impact.[3] BuiltX aims to improve the lives of 100 million people by 2040, fostering partnerships that emphasize trust, transparency, and shared purpose.

Operations and services

[edit]

BuiltX provides end-to-end infrastructure solutions for non-profits, using the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) method to efficiently manage all aspects of a project. The company's services include:

  • Planning and feasibility studies
  • Architectural and engineering designs
  • Construction and project management

BuiltX aims to maintain cost efficiency, offering its services with operating margins ranging from 10-25% below industry standards. This enables non-profit organizations to allocate more resources to their core missions, while still receiving high-quality infrastructure that meets their needs.

Notable projects

[edit]

Since its inception, BuiltX has constructed over 300000 sq. feet of infrastructure, positively impacting more than one million people. Significant projects include:

  • Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital: A 500-bed super specialty eye hospital in Bihar, poised to become the largest charitable eye hospital in India by the number of surgeries performed annually.[4] The Facility conducts over 100,000 free eye surgeries annually, addressing critical healthcare needs in the region. It is considered a milestone for healthcare infrastructure in Bihar.[5]
