Brian Satterwhite
Brian Satterwhite (born July 30, 1974) is an American composer and conductor renowned for his contributions to film music. Based in Austin, Texas, he has composed scores for over 160 short and feature films, including The Next Kill (2018), Disney's The Lone Ranger (2013), and Sushi: The Global Catch (2012).[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Born in Beeville, Texas, Satterwhite pursued his passion for music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, earning a Bachelor of Music with dual majors in Film Scoring and Composition.[2][1]
Career
[edit]His work spans various genres and formats, including the IMAX™ feature Ride Around the World (2006), the documentary Sushi: The Global Catch (2011), and the narrative feature Artois the Goat (2009).[3]
In 2012, Satterwhite joined the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin's Radio-Television-Film Department, teaching film music composition to aspiring filmmakers.[2]
Since 2012, he has been a regular collaborator with the Dallas Chamber Symphony, who commissioned him to write original scores for A Sailor-Made Man starring Harold Lloyd, The Scarecrow starring Buster Keaton, Fritz Lang's Metropolis, and Robert Wiene's The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. These scores premiered during concert screenings at Moody Performance Hall with Richard McKay conducting.[4][5][6] In 2013, his score for A Sailor-Made Man was honored as a finalist for a Jerry Goldsmith Award.[7]
Satterwhite has participated in community outreach and educational programming, mentoring emerging composers and filmmakers. He also hosted “Film Score Focus,” a radio show on KMFA 89.5 in Austin, where he highlighted notable film scores, interviewed composers, and discussed the craft of scoring for motion pictures.[3]
