In 1997 and early 1998, the school had built a new 16,000 square foot South Gymnasium; a 5,000 square foot outdoor street hockey/basketball area; a redesigned West Gate on Oakland Beach Avenue; a 6,000 square foot West Wing of classrooms . In 2006 the school had built a new state of the art 350 seat theatre, 30,000 square feet of new classrooms, and a new band suite that has been added to the landscape of Bishop Hendricken. Inside all of the new classrooms all they have all been equipped with SmartBoard Technology. Also in 2006 the school installed state of the art artificial turf onto the Hawk football field which at the time was the first high school in the state of Rhode Island to have artificial turf on the football field.

Athletics

- In 2007 Sports Illustrated rated Hendricken as the #1 athletic program in the state of Rhode Island

Basketball- Hendricken has won five straight Division 1 state basketball championships as of March 9, 2008. In the 2007-2008 year the Hawks tallied a 22-2 record and defeated Woonsocket 67-64 to win the RI state championship. One reason for the fine success over the past 5 years is in their coach Jamal Gomes who is considered to be one of the best high school basketball coaches in the state of Rhode Island.

Baseball Hendricken's baseball team is always one of the top teams in Rhode Island. From 1997-2000 Hendricken won4 straight state titles and then from 2003- 2005 Hendricken won 3 straight state titles. Overall since the start of division1 play the Hawks have won 13 baseball state championships.

Hockey- Hendricken's hockey team is considered to be one of the state powerhouses. Although they were defeated in the 2008 state championship they had won back to back hockey RI state championships in 2006, and 2007.

Football- Hendricken has not won a state championship in Varsity football since 1996, but the Hawks are still associated with East Providence High School and LaSalle Academy as the three traditional powers in Rhode Island High School Football. The Hawks have made it to the last two Division 1 State Championship games, but losing in both contests to East Providence in 2006 (37-13) and then losing to St. Raphaels in 2007 (8-6). Hendricken Football has also churned out a few NFL and FBS players, such as Will Blackmon, Jeffrey Ryan (Boston College), and Steve Furness (Rhode Island). The 2007 squad went 11-2 with an appearance in the state championship game. The team finished with three First Team All-State Selections, OL/DL Bob Booth, HB/LB Brandford Sowah (his second straight first team selection), and HB/DB Darren Williams. QB Andrew Ferreira also madse second team all state, if it weren't for a season ending injury in the second to last week in the regular season, he would have been first team all-state and the Hawks would have likely beaten St. Raphaels in the Div. 1 State Championship. The Hawks Varsity is currently being coached by Keith Croft, a hendricken graduate and first team all-state selection during his time at Hendricken. However, the future looks even brighter, as the past to freshmen football teams have made appearances in the Div. 1 freshmen state championship games. The 2006 squad, led by Mike Flanagan and Anthony Bucci posted a 9-1 record, but losing in the state championship to Barrington. The 2007 squad, led by captains Mike Maloof, Mark Vargas, Rob Manning, Stanley Sainterlein, and Tim Burnett posted and 11-0 record and dominated from start to finish as the closest game was a nine point win over LaSalle.
