Battle for the Zaglavak hill also known as Defense of Zaglavak Hill and Operation Zaglavak-93 is an attempt by the ARBiH to take control of Zaglavak Hill and destroy the Serbian forces remaining in the area, as the Serbian brigade suffered losses and wouldve been forced to withdraw, Russian Volunteers arrived to the scene and helped the VRS and defended the hill.[1][2]

Prelude[edit]

Soldiers from the Goražde Brigade already had suffered heavy losses, losing territory, soldiers and being forced to retreat on the hill. As this was an important factor for the ARBiH and could lead to fall of Višegrad they kept attacking. At the moment when the VRS was about to retreat, the Russians arrived and started defending the hill.[1][3]

The battle[edit]

Dating back to January 1993 the ARBiH kept fighting over the Zaglavak Hill, as the'd capture it most of the times but the VRS kept counter-attacking and re-taking the point.[1] But the biggest fight occurred on April 12, 1993, when the Serbian forces were about to retreat the Russian Volunteers arrived and started their Operation Zaglavak-93. Fighting kept becoming more and more intense, both sides losing a lot of recourses and soldiers but as time passed ARBiH was exhausted and surprised by the patiency and courage of the Russian Forces. They retreated from the area after suffering heavy losses[4] and the whole region was re-taken by the VRS and Višegrad was secured once again.[5][6][2] During the Battle Aleksandar Kravchenko was wounded in the head,[1] after some treatment he had survived and returned to fighting. RDO-1 was disbanded later on.One of the main commanders on the Russian side was also Igor Strelkov[7][8]
