Baron of Ardblair and Gask is a noble title within the Baronage of Scotland, associated with the Blair-Oliphant family. The title includes both the Barony of Ardblair, dating from the medieval period, and the Barony of Gask. The current holder is Laurence Philip Kington-Blair-Oliphant, who inherited both titles in the 20th century.[2][3]
Family History

The Blair-Oliphant family has a long history in Scotland, and the title of Baron of Ardblair was officially recognised by the Lord Lyon King of Arms in 1979. The title of Baron of Gask was later recognised in 1981. Laurence Philip Kington-Blair-Oliphant was born on 26 August 1945, the son of Major Philip James Kington-Blair-Oliphant and Beatrice Mary Carroll. He was educated at Glenalmond College in Perthshire, Scotland. The family seat is Ardblair Castle, located near Blairgowrie in Perthshire. The castle dates back to the medieval era and has been in the family for centuries. It houses many significant Oliphant family artefacts, including charters and portraits, representing the family's important role in Scottish history.[4]
Current Nobleman
[edit]Laurence Philip Kington-Blair-Oliphant, Baron of Ardblair and Gask inherited on the death of his father. He married Jennifer Caroline Anscombe (Lady Ardblair and Gask) on 11 August 1973, and they have three children:
- Charles Laurence Kington-Blair-Oliphant of Ardblair and Gask, Younger (born 11 January 1976)
- Amelia Caroline Kington-Blair-Oliphant (born 25 September 1977)
- Philippa Mary Kington-Blair-Oliphant (born 25 January 1981)
Their eldest son, Charles Laurence Kington-Blair-Oliphant, is the heir apparent.[5]
Gask and Oliphant History
[edit]The Oliphants of Gask were a prominent Jacobite family, and their involvement in the Jacobite risings made them a significant part of Scottish history. The Gask estate was historically important, and the Oliphants played a role in the support of Bonnie Prince Charlie during the Jacobite Uprising.[6]
