Samuel Aniekan, known professionally as BJ Sam, is a Nigerian singer, writer, model, and songwriter.[1][2][3] He is the first singer-songwriter to feature musical acts from all the continents of the world in one song.[4] BJ Sam sings in English and French.[5] His music is characterised by its multicultural fusion of African rhythms with Western instrumentation and styles.[6][7] In 2017, the American film director Lloyd Kaufman personally selected his song "Mon Amour" for the soundtrack of the Hollywood movie Heart of Fartness.[8][9][10]

Music career

[edit]

BJ Sam started music in an international classical mass choir at the age of 15, and later joined an accapella group called The Simplest Guyz in Nigeria before relocating.[3] In December 2022, BJ Sam released a universal Christmas song featuring musicians from all the continents of the world, which include Hollywood Actor Paul Raci, Bollywood playback singer Jaspinder Narula, Indo-American jazz composer and pianist Charu Suri, and Ghanaian singer Diana Hopeson.[4][11] In 2023, in response to the war in Ukraine, BJ Sam assembled 23 artists from all continents of the world to release a music video titled ‘Show some love’, asking Russians to drop their weapons and embrace peace.[12][13]
