Career

[edit]

Technology Entrepreneurship

[edit]

McCalla began her career as a business consultant and also worked with tech-startups in both Silicon Valley and Toronto.[3]

Alexandra McCalla initially gained recognition as an award-winning technology entrepreneur. She co-founded a successful technology startup that earned several accolades in the industry, highlighting her capabilities in innovation and leadership. Throughout her career in the tech space, she focused on empowering communities through technology, particularly in addressing challenges faced by underrepresented groups.

McCalla, alongside Bashir Khan, are the founders of AirMatrix, which builds millimetre precision 3D drone roads.[1] After raising $400,000 from angel investors, she earned additional funding from National Research Council Canada. At its inception, the company was the only startup in the world to have autonomous drone flight, and has worked with NASA and Transport Canada.[4]

Therapeutic Work and Somatics

[edit]

In recent years, McCalla transitioned into the field of holistic healing and somatic therapy. Drawing from her own experiences with post-traumatic stress and autoimmune conditions, she developed a unique approach that combines breathwork, somatics, and trauma-informed practices. McCalla now works with individuals and groups to support trauma integration, emotional release, and embodiment, with a focus on liberating stuck energy and emotions within the body.

McCalla facilitates various group programs and courses that focus on breathwork, somatics, and trauma integration. She leads participants through processes of self-exploration, nervous system regulation, and emotional release. In collaboration with wellness centers, she also conducts workshops aimed at embodied leadership and personal transformation.

Her therapeutic work is informed by a deep understanding of the nervous system and trauma, and she supports clients through a compassionate, holistic lens.

[edit]

As a founding member of the Coalition of Innovation Leaders Against Racism, McCalla works with other leaders in business and technology to combat systemic racial barriers.[4] She has also worked with the Black Innovation Fellowship Bootcamp, which supports early-stage Black tech leaders.[4][5]
