Alexander Thor Bjerregård Madsen (born 26 January 1995) is a Finnish professional basketball player who plays for Força Lleida of the Liga ACB, and for the Finland national team.

Early life

Madsen was born to a Danish father and Finnish mother. His parents played volleyball in Finland: Niels Madsen played in the Finland Volleyball League and Vuokko Naukkarinen in the Finnish Women's Volleyball League.[1][2][3]

Club career

In Finland, Alexander Madsen played for Kouvot from 20122016.[4]

He later played for USK Praha of the National Basketball League (Czech Republic) from 2016 to 2018.[4]

After playing three seasons for VEF Rīga in Latvia, on July 25, 2022, Madsen signed a one-year contract with AEK Athens of the Greek Basket League and the FIBA Champions league.[5] In 20 domestic league games, he averaged 6.2 points and 2.5 rebounds, playing around 14 minutes per contest.

He returned to VEF Riga for the 2023–24 season. After the team was knocked out of the FIBA Champions league, he terminated his contract with the club in the end of 2023.[6]

On 29 December 2023, Madsen signed with BC Andorra of the Spanish Liga ACB.[7]

In July 2024, Madsen joined newly promoted Liga ACB team Força Lleida.[8]

National team

Madsen played 64 matches combined for his country's youth national teams.[4]

Later, he became a member of the senior Finnish national basketball team.[9] He represented Finland in the EuroBasket 2022 and in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Madsen also played in the 2024 FIBA Olympic qualifying tournament.[10]
