Alex Falconer is an American politician and environmental activist who is a member-elect of Minnesota House of Representatives for a term beginning in 2025. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), he will represent District 49A in the southwestern Twin Cities metropolitan area, which includes parts of Eden Prairie and Minnetonka in Hennepin County, Minnesota.[1]
Early life, education, and career
[edit]Falconer was born on August 30, 1980. He went to high school at Red Wing High School in Red Wing and later received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Saint Olaf College in Northfield.[2] Prior to his electoral career, he had a career in advocacy as a campaign manager for Save the Boundary Waters. In 2021, he completed a 110-mile run in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area for the film Boundary Waters Traverse[3] to raise awareness for the campaign and environmental advocacy at large.[4]
Minnesota House of Representatives
[edit]Representative Laurie Pryor announced her retirement from the Minnesota House of Representatives, district 49A, prior to the 2024 election,[5] leaving the seat open for 2024. Falconer declared his candidacy and defeated Minnetonka City Council member Kissy Coakley in the DFL primary.[6] He then won the general election with over 60% of the vote against Republican Stacy L. Bettison.[7]

Personal life
[edit]Falconer is an avid outdoorsman and trail runner.[4] He lives in Eden Prairie with his wife Erica and three children.[2] He coaches cross country at Minnetonka Middle School East and Nordic skiing at Minnetonka High School.[8]
