Description[edit]

The leaf-footed bug is usually around 1 1/2" long with a dark gray to black color. Their antennae have orange tips, and their hind legs have a flat, leaf-like, appearance.[3]

Sexual dimorphism[edit]

Sexual dimorphism is relatively limited, although males typically have thicker, curved hind legs and will have fewer spikes, while body size remains relatively stagnant.[4][3]

Range and habitat[edit]

Acanthocephala terminalis is usually found in the eastern half of the United States and parts of southeast Canada.[5][1][2] They will usually live in fields and the edges of forests.[5]
