[edit]The Liberal Party and the Victorian Socialists have indicated that they will contest the by-election.[6][7]
Labor
[edit]On December 23, John Lister, a local school teacher and CFA volunteer firefighter, was confirmed as Labor's candidate for the by-election.[8] This will be the second by-election contested by Victorian Labor during this term of government, after having been absent in Narracan, Warrandyte, and intending to be absent in Prahran.

Since last Friday's meeting it has become clear that there is now a definite absolute majority of my colleagues who want this issue resolved with her readmission so that we can collectively put this behind us and concentrate on the Prahran and Werribee by-elections and holding the Allan Labor Government to account.

Meet John. He's a local high school teacher, CFA volunteer firefighter, and your Labor candidate for Werribee. Werribee is John's home. He was raised there and he and his partner, Mary, are building their life together in Werribee's South. John followed in his mum Meg's footsteps, becoming a teacher at Wyndham Central College. He's running for the same reason he became a teacher: to make a difference. Labor has delivered for Werribee, from upgrading the Mercy Hospital to removing three level crossings and building eight new schools. But John knows there is more to do. That's why he'll be campaigning for every single vote from now and polling day.
