The 2025 Asia Cup will be the 17th edition of the men's Asia Cup cricket tournament. It is scheduled to take place in September 2025.[1] The matches will be played in Twenty20 International format. India are the defending champions.[2]
The tournament will feature 8 teams. The five full members of the Asian Cricket Council; Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka automatically qualify for the tournament and they will be joined by Hong Kong, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, as they finished in the top three in the 2024 ACC Men's Premier Cup.
Background
[edit]The dates for the tournament were released in July 2024, with India initially hosting the tournament.[3]
Format
[edit]The groups and format of the tournament will be different to the previous tournaments, with the 8 teams split into two groups of 4. The top 2 teams from each group will qualify for a single-group Super Four stage. The top two teams in this stage will contest the final for the Asia Cup trophy.[1]
Teams and qualification
[edit]The five full members of the Asian Cricket Council qualified automatically for the tournament while the United Arab Emirates joined them after winning the 2024 ACC Premier Cup followed by next best two teams Hong Kong and Oman.[4]
