The 2020–21 South Dakota Coyotes women's basketball team represented University of South Dakota in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Coyotes, were led by fifth year head coach Dawn Plitzuweit, they competed in the Summit League. They played their home games in Sanford Coyote Sports Center in Vermillion, South Dakota.

Previous season

The Coyotes went 30–2 and 16–0 in conference play. They finished first in the conference earning the first seed in the Summit League tournament. The coyotes won their quarterfinals game against Omaha 99–40. In their semifinals games they matched up against Oral Roberts and won 65–43. They reached the Championship game against in state rival South Dakota State and beat them to secure an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Days after the conference ended the NCAA tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
