1SWASP J093010.78+533859.5 is a quintuple star system located in the constellation Ursa Major.[1][2]
Description
[edit]Initially, two stars were discovered that were so close together that their atmospheres touched each other. Both stars take six hours to orbit each other. A second pair of stars was discovered about 13 billion miles away, as well as a fifth star located about 1.3 billion miles from the second pair. The five stars are connected by gravity and therefore do not form separate systems. No planets have yet been discovered in the system.[3][4]
The star system is located approximately 138 light years from Earth, and was discovered using data from the "Super Wide Angle Search for Planets" (SuperWASP) project in the Canary Islands.[5]
